Copy, web content, technical and scientific writing, internal and external corporate communications, books (eight so far), and academic papers — I edit and proofread all of it.
Copyediting . . .
ensures that the text adheres to a style guide and identifies content and logical inconsistencies. It makes the text clear while maintaining the author's intent, while correcting grammar, style, register, and simple mistakes. It also catches bad translations.
Proofreading . . .
cleans up spelling, grammar, and punctuation mistakes in addition to style inconsistencies that may have been overlooked in the editing process.
Post-editing . . .
is a different process that handles a lot of the same problems as other editing. The difference is that post-editing occurs after an automated process. It fixes mistakes in machine translations and output from Large Language Models such as ChatGPT, Gemini, or Microsoft Copilot.
The specialty is texts translated from German into English. Most of the academic work has been machine learning and AI; the rest spans corporate communications, quality system documentation, governance, and papers from foundations and think tanks. Publications translated from other languages, English written by speakers of other languages, and native English that needs sharpening all get the same treatment.
